Zerocalcare, born Michele Rech, returns exclusively on Netflix with Due Spicci, a new animated series set to premiere on May 27, 2026. The project marks his third title for the platform, following previous collaborations. Strappare lungo i bordi and This World Can’t Tear Me Down established a clear direction; now, this new series continues that path within animated storytelling.
Created, written and directed by Zerocalcare, the series is produced by Movimenti Production (part of Banijay Kids & Family) in collaboration with BAO Publishing. As in previous projects, familiar characters from his narrative universe return, including Zero and the Armadillo, once again voiced by Valerio Mastandrea.
From a narrative perspective, Due Spicci follows the protagonist in a different phase of his life. Zero and his friend Secco run a small business; however, they face financial difficulties and personal tensions. At the same time, the return of a figure from the past introduces new complications. As a result, the story develops through both present-day events and memories, maintaining the autobiographical tone that defines the author’s work.
Launch campaign and Turin preview
The series launch has been supported by a social media campaign built around a digital treasure hunt. Netflix revealed the official poster progressively; in this way, users were invited to piece it together by following clues shared online.
Meanwhile, ahead of the release, Zerocalcare will present Due Spicci on May 16 at the Salone Internazionale del Libro di Torino during the panel “Zerocalcare – Due spicci e non solo”. Here, the author will introduce elements of the series and reflect on his work in animation, focusing on the evolution of his storytelling approach.
Overall, with Due Spicci, Zerocalcare continues his work in animated series for Netflix. In addition, the project expands a trajectory already established in previous productions, reinforcing his presence in episodic storytelling.
