As Frank Castle, aka The Punisher, searches for a purpose in life beyond vengeance, an unexpected force pulls him back into the fight.
On the second night of the beach screenings at the Italian Global Series, the character portrayed by Jon Bernthal finally returns to center stage. After headlining his own series and recently appearing in the first season of Daredevil: Born Again, he now stars in a standalone television special, co-written by Bernthal himself alongside director Reinaldo Marcus Green. The two previously collaborated on the acclaimed miniseries We Own This City, widely regarded as a spiritual successor to one of American television’s greatest masterpieces, The Wire.
The special is loosely inspired by the 2000 comic book miniseries Punisher: Welcome Back, Frank, written by Garth Ennis and illustrated by Steve Dillon. It also introduces the vengeful widow Ma Gnucci, portrayed by Judith Light, a guest at the 2026 Italian Global Series.
