The new Harry Potter HBO series has officially entered production in the United Kingdom. It marks the beginning of one of the most highly anticipated projects for fans of the saga.
The HBO reboot, based on the novels by British author J.K. Rowling, aims to deliver a faithful and extended adaptation of the entire book series. The story was previously brought to the big screen between 2001 and 2011, becoming one of the most successful film franchises of recent decades.
The series will feature a new cast led by young actors. Dominic McLaughlin will play Harry Potter, alongside Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley and Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger. They will be joined by a lineup of established performers, including John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape and Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid.
The project is led by showrunner Francesca Gardiner and director Mark Mylod. Executive producers include J.K. Rowling, Neil Blair and Ruth Kenley-Letts for Brontë Film and TV, as well as David Heyman, who previously produced the original film saga. The series aims to offer a more in-depth and faithful adaptation of the books, using a serialized format to explore characters and storylines in greater detail.
Filming is currently underway at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden in the UK. These are the same studios used for the original films, reinforcing continuity with the cinematic universe. The series will follow Harry’s journey from discovering his identity as a wizard to his years at Hogwarts, alongside Ron and Hermione, to bring back one of the most iconic worlds in popular culture to a new generation of viewers.
