Netflix has released the first official image from Scooby-Doo: Origins, the new live-action series inspired by the iconic animated franchise. The image arrives as filming is currently underway in Atlanta and offers a first look at the main cast together on set.
The project marks a significant step for the brand, bringing the adventures of the most iconic group of teenage mystery solvers to a live-action serialized format for the first time.
A return to the origins of the mystery
The series explores the origins of the team, focusing on the moment when the characters first meet and begin working together. The story unfolds during a summer at a camp, where some of them find themselves involved in a mysterious case.
At the center of the story is a seemingly lost Great Dane puppy, connected to a disturbing event. From this starting point, an investigation develops that will push the group to face increasingly complex situations, putting their bond to the test.
Cast, production and development
The project draws inspiration from the 1969 animated series created by Hanna-Barbera, offering a contemporary reinterpretation that preserves the core elements of the franchise.
The cast includes Tanner Hagen, Mckenna Grace, Abby Ryder Fortson and Maxwell Jenkins, who play Shaggy, Daphne, Velma, and Freddy respectively. Paul Walter Hauser also joins the series in a role that remains under wraps.
The project is led by Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg as showrunners, writers, and executive producers. Production also involves Greg Berlanti and his team, in collaboration with Warner Bros. Television.
A new chapter for the franchise
With Scooby-Doo: Origins, Netflix continues to expand its slate of live-action adaptations, revisiting a well-known universe with a fresh approach.
Following the success of films and multiple animated iterations, the new series aims to explore the characters’ past, building a story that blends mystery, coming-of-age elements, and adventure.
