The Diplomat Season 4 is officially heading to Italy. The Netflix political drama created by Debora Cahn will film part of its new season in Tuscany. As a result, the city of Lucca will become one of the main locations for the upcoming episodes starring Keri Russell and Rufus Sewell.
Production is expected to take place between May and June 2026. Several iconic areas across the historic city will be involved in the shoot. In recent days, visual elements connected to the series have already appeared around Lucca, increasing anticipation for the production’s arrival in Italy.
Lucca takes center stage in the new season
According to early reports, the production will use a number of historic locations throughout the city. These include famous squares, streets and landmarks in Lucca’s historic center. Moreover, several recognizable areas are expected to appear in the new episodes, adapted to match the political and international atmosphere of the series.
The diplomatic tone that defines The Diplomat is already reflected in some of the first set installations spotted around the city. Signs and props referencing an international summit have attracted attention from residents and visitors alike. In addition, rumors suggest that part of the filming could also move to other Tuscan locations, including Florence.
Netflix’s political drama returns
The series follows Kate Wyler, the U.S. ambassador to the United Kingdom played by Keri Russell. Throughout the story, she faces international crises, political tensions and increasingly complicated personal relationships. Rufus Sewell will also return as Hal Wyler.
Since its debut, The Diplomat has become one of Netflix’s most acclaimed drama series. The show has received nominations at major international awards, including the Emmys and Golden Globes. Now, Season 4 will expand the series even further by bringing part of the production to Italy for the first time.
