Prime Video has officially announced the release date for the third season of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. The series, set during the Second Age of Middle-earth, will return on November 11, 2026, continuing the story of Sauron’s rise and the growing conflict threatening the balance of the realm.
The announcement was made during the Amazon Upfront presentation in New York, where the platform also revealed a new official image of Sauron, played by Charlie Vickers. In the first-look image, the character appears wearing the crown, hinting at an even more central role in the upcoming chapter of the story.
The war enters a new phase
According to the first details shared by Prime Video, the third season will take place several years after the events of season two. As a result, she story will move deeper into the war between the Elves and Sauron, as the Dark Lord continues his plan to forge the One Ring and strengthen his control over Middle-earth.
The upcoming episodes are expected to expand the political and military dimensions already introduced in previous seasons. Following the reveal of Sauron’s true identity and the events of the season two finale, the narrative now appears to move closer to some of the most iconic elements of Tolkien’s mythology.
Amazon’s expanding fantasy franchise
The series remains one of Prime Video’s most ambitious productions to date. In fact, Amazon reiterated that The Rings of Power continues to be one of the platform’s flagship titles, both in terms of viewership and its impact on global subscriptions. The second season was also among the most watched returning shows on the service.
Meanwhile, showrunners J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay will return alongside the creative team behind the previous seasons. At the same time, The Lord of the Rings universe is continuing to expand on the big screen as well, with new films currently in development by Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema.
