“Minerva Academy”, presented as a preview at the latest edition of Giffoni, has been available since September 22 on Netflix. The series, consisting of eight episodes, is produced by Roberto Sessa for Picomedia. The direction is entrusted to Ivan Silvestrini, already known for directing “Mare Fuori“, and, for one episode, to Francesca Marino.
The story is set inside a military high school in Naples, La Minerva, an institution that seems to belong to another era.
The discipline is strict: students are woken up at dawn for the flag-raising ceremony. Mobile phones and civilian clothes are prohibited, and everyone is required to wear the uniform prescribed by the school.
La Minerva therefore becomes the hub around which the students’ personal stories unfold, allowing them to discover themselves and bring their dreams and ambitions to light.
The cast brings together a new and an older generation of actors. Among the best-known faces are Cristina Capotondi, who plays teacher Laura Canale, Massimiliano Gallo, in the role of commander Achille Giordano, and Irene Maiorino, who plays deputy commander Teresa Bonaiuto.
As for the young actors, the focus is mainly on three protagonists: Ciro Minopoli, Margherita Buoncristiani and Biaggio Venditti.
These actors respectively play Salvo Fusco, a boy who enters the institution to search for the truth about his missing best friend; Camilla Savino, a girl who, at her parents’ insistence, will attend the Minerva military high school; and, finally, Vincenzo Cipriani, a young man from a military family who is determined to follow in his father’s footsteps.
Among the young actors, in addition to the three protagonists, are Giulio Brizzi, who plays Max, Nicole Malaj as Rachele, Beatrice Savignani as Paola Giordano, Simone Secce, who plays Diego Giordano, and Alicia Edogamhe as Adele.
