Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson will star in Brothers, the new Apple TV+ comedy series, arriving Wednesday, September 23, 2026, with its first two episodes. The series was created by the two actors themselves, who also serve as executive producers.
The two big Hollywood names had previously shared the screen in True Detective, the crime anthology series that won a total of 7 Emmy Awards. This time, however, they’re teaming up again in a completely different, light-hearted and ironic setting, inspired by a real-life rumour that started between them: the possibility that they might actually be brothers.
They revealed the story themselves in an interview with People. After thirty years of friendship, McConaughey’s mother, Kay, 94, revealed that she had a flirtation with Harrelson’s father before the actor was born. Ever since, rumours of a possible family connection between the two have persisted.
Brothers draws on this real story to create a new one. Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson play two long-time friends whose friendship is put to the test when a shocking family secret comes to light: the possibility that they might actually be blood brothers. Things get complicated when Woody temporarily moves, along with his whole family, into Matthew’s ranch. The forced cohabitation brings long-buried truths back to the surface, sparking a series of hilarious and unpredictable situations. Digging into their past, facing personal crises, and even the unlikely possibility of running for public office, the two find themselves grappling with questions of identity, family, friendship, and fame.
