Among the many announcements made during the 83rd Venice Film Festival, APA (the Italian Association of Audiovisual Producers) opened a conversation about the future of serial storytelling, officially presenting the news of the third edition of the Italian Global Series, set to take place in Rimini and Riccione from July 2 to 10, 2027.
Marco Spagnoli will return as artistic director, alongside actress Stefania Spampinato as godmother and ambassador, and international jurors including David Boreanaz, John Hannah and Titus Welliver. The Summer School will also return for its second edition, designed for young talents with the aim of encouraging a shift in the way stories are told.
Chiara Sbarigia, APA’s president, expressed her satisfaction at announcing the third edition of the Italian Global Series, which will be the first festival in the world to feature a competition dedicated exclusively to microdramas. This new short-form format, which introduces fresh rhythms and viewing habits, will have its own jury and dedicated programme, running alongside the traditional Drama, Comedy and Limited Series sections. The festival thus confirms its role as an experimental benchmark for global serial storytelling.
Marco Spagnoli, artistic director of the IGS, echoed this sentiment, further highlighting the mission of the Italian Global Series as a space for encounter and dialogue, a cutting-edge testing ground for Italian and international serial storytelling. Spagnoli also took the opportunity to thank the Ministry of Culture and APA for their renewed trust in the work being done and in the vision guiding the Italian Global Series, aimed at a shared cultural project built together with the many talents who have expressed a desire to return.
The initiative, conceived and promoted by APA in collaboration with Cinecittà, is supported by the Ministry of Culture, the Emilia-Romagna Region, the municipalities of Rimini and Riccione, and partners AGIS and SIAE.
