At the start of September, the Italian television season will bring new series to Rai1 and Canale 5. Here’s a preview of what’s coming.
On Canale 5, starting September 2, “Erica – An Accidental Detective” begins, a mystery produced as a three-episode miniseries starring Vanessa Incontrada as Erica Magliani, a crime novelist entangled in a murder case. She’s paired with Commissioner Leonardo Carrese, played by Francesco Scianna, with whom she develops an intense and nuanced relationship. The series is based on the novels of Swedish author Camilla Läckberg.
Meanwhile, Canale 5 has various other series lined up, such as The Butterfly Labyrinth“, a Spanish-produced romantic thriller. Can Yaman plays the spy Kaplan, who, wrongly accused, goes from being a model agent to public enemy number one.
Also coming is the second season of “A New Life“, with Anna Valle returning as Vittoria Greco, a doctor wrongly accused in her husband’s death. In this new season, the protagonist will once again have to prove the innocence of another loved one — this time, her son.
The third season of “Viola Like the Sea” will return soon, introducing a new character: Palermo police chief inspector Massimo Paternò, played by Argentine actor Rodrigo Guirao Díaz, who becomes the new neighbour of protagonist Viola Vitale, played by Francesca Chillemi.
“My Name Is Carlo“, the TV movie about Carlo Acutis, is the final title of the new season on Canale 5. The story focuses on the Milanese teenager who died of leukaemia at 15 and was declared a saint on September 7, 2025, retracing his life through moments from childhood and adolescence.
On Rai 1’s side, many interesting titles will be released from late September onwards. Among them is “All the Love That Remains“, already previewed at this year’s Global Series festival. Produced by Rai1 and Fabula Fiction, the series stars Raoul Bova as the principal of a school for students with disabilities.
In early October, the fourth season of “Doc – In Your Hands” kicks off, the highly anticipated series starring Luca Argentero. Returning to the Policlinico Ambrosiano after a year away, Andrea Fanti finds his department upended by budget cuts. His fight to defend it risks pushing him away from Giulia (Matilde Gioli); to save the hospital from scandal, the two will need to rebuild their lost partnership.
Also starting in October is “The Cases of Teresa Battaglia – Daughter of Ash“. Based on the novels by Ilaria Tuti, it follows profiler Teresa Battaglia, played by Elena Sofia Ricci, as she confronts a serial killer whose victims share a dark connection, while her own past comes back to haunt her.
That same month brings “Libera – The Elena Palma Case“. After the success of the first season, Lunetta Savino returns as judge Libera Orlando, presiding over the trial of a young rapper accused of killing his ex-girlfriend.
In November, the schedule expands with several titles. “The Panini Family—The Sticker Adventure“, inspired by the novel by Luigi Garlando, tells the story of Olga, mother of eight, who convinces her family to open a newsstand in Modena after the war, the small shop that would grow into the sticker empire tied to the 1970 World Cup.
Also debuting in November is “177 Days – The Kidnapping of Farouk“. Directed by Carlo Carlei, this true-crime series reconstructs the kidnapping of seven-year-old Farouk Kassam, abducted in Costa Smeralda in 1992, and the 177 days of anguish endured above all by his father, Fateh.
Among the other autumn releases is “A Window with a Lake View“, a mystery-comedy based on the novels of Andrea Vitali, set in Bellano during the 1930s, following the early career of Calabrian marshal Ernesto Maccadò, alongside his wife Maristella.
Finally, in December comes the comedy “A Small Formality“, based on the novel by Alessia Gazzola. The story follows Rachele, a lifestyle journalist who dreams of doing investigative work, whose life changes after an inheritance leads her to cross paths with notary Manfredi and Alina.
