Casper is set to return to the screen as the protagonist of a new live-action series developed for Disney+. The project brings back one of the most beloved characters of 1990s pop culture, reintroducing him through a new serialized format.
Leading the series are Rob Letterman and Hilary Winston, both involved in writing and executive production alongside Steven Spielberg and UCP. Letterman will also direct, reinforcing his creative role within the project.
A new take on the iconic character
Plot details have not yet been revealed, but early indications suggest the series will offer a contemporary reinterpretation of the character, with a tone leaning toward darker fantasy storytelling. The aim appears to be refreshing Casper’s universe while preserving the core elements that made the character so popular.
As mentioned, the project will also involve Steven Spielberg – already executive producer of the 1995 film adaptation– in the same role, strengthening the connection to the movie that helped make Casper globally recognizable.
Originally created in the 1940s as a comic character, Casper later became the star of several animated and live-action adaptations. With this new series, Disney+ aims to bring the iconic ghost into an updated narrative context, appealing to both longtime fans and new audiences.
