Netflix brings back one of the most recognizable characters in modern comedy with the prequel series Ted. The project explores the origins of the irreverent teddy bear, taking viewers back to the 1990s, when the bond between Ted and young John Bennett first takes shape.
Created by Seth MacFarlane, who also returns as the voice of Ted, the series is closely tied to his original creative vision. He continues to guide the character’s identity, while the story shifts its focus to John’s teenage years, played by Max Burkholder, and the impact Ted has on his everyday life.
A sitcom between nostalgia and contemporary storytelling
The narrative unfolds in a typical 1990s domestic and school environment, where family and social dynamics drive the story forward. Ted continues to move through everyday situations and sharp comedic moments, maintaining his irreverent and provocative style.
Alongside the main characters, Blaire – played by Giorgia Whigham – joins the story as a cousin visiting the Bennett family. Her presence introduces new dynamics and perspectives, shifting the balance within the group.
The series adopts a classic sitcom structure, with short episodes and a format inspired by 1990s television. Compared to the original films, however, the series expands character development and relationships, offering a more layered and continuous narrative.
A new chapter for the franchise
With this prequel, the Ted franchise expands in a new direction, exploring the origins of its characters and their initial setting. The project blends nostalgia with generational satire, keeping the relationship between Ted and John at the core of the story.
The series joins Netflix’s growing catalog of projects based on iconic film characters, offering a new perspective on a story already well known to audiences.
