A new casting change has been announced for HBO’s Harry Potter TV series. While production on the first season is nearing completion, the studio has confirmed that Ginny Weasley will be recast starting from Season 2.
Gracie Cochrane, originally chosen to play Ron Weasley’s younger sister, has officially stepped away from the project after the first season. The news arrives only a few months after HBO confirmed an early renewal for the series, signaling the network’s long-term plans for the adaptation.
Gracie Cochrane exits the series
In a statement shared together with her family, the young actress explained that she decided to leave the role due to “unforeseen circumstances.” HBO later responded by expressing support for the decision and thanking Cochrane for her contribution to the first season.
At the moment, the production has not revealed who will replace her as Ginny Weasley in the upcoming episodes. Nevertheless, the recasting marks one of the first major changes connected to the cast of the highly anticipated adaptation.
The cast of HBO’s Harry Potter series
The series will adapt the events of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, the first novel in J.K. Rowling’s saga. Dominic McLaughlin will play Harry Potter, alongside Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley and Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger.
The cast also includes John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Professor McGonagall, Nick Frost as Hagrid and Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape. In recent weeks, HBO also confirmed that work on future seasons is already moving forward in order to maintain a faster production schedule.
