Vespucci – The Longest Voyage will premiere on Rai 3 and RaiPlay on April 17 and 24. The docuseries brings to the screen the story of the World Tour of the training ship Amerigo Vespucci. Structured in four episodes, it closely follows the experience of Italian Navy cadets during a long journey around the globe.
Directed by Flavio Maspes and produced by Palomar in collaboration with Rai Fiction, the series takes viewers aboard the historic sailing ship. Launched in 1931, the Vespucci has become a symbol of Italian excellence over time. In addition, the narration, voiced by Luca Ward, retraces the key stages of a journey that combines training, discipline and life at sea.
The voyage unfolds over two years and reaches several international ports. In particular, it begins in Los Angeles and intersects with the activities of Villaggio Italia. This traveling initiative promotes Italian excellence abroad. As a result, the series blends operational storytelling with a broader symbolic dimension.
At the center of the narrative is the personal journey of the cadets. They face intense rhythms, limited space and long-term coexistence. For this reason, life on board becomes a moment of both personal and collective growth, where responsibility and relationships take shape.
Among the most significant moments of the journey is the passage around Cape Horn. Here, the crew faces one of the most demanding challenges, both technically and emotionally. In this way, the series highlights the complexity of life at sea and the importance of training, combining educational elements with documentary storytelling.
