Netflix has acquired the rights to develop a limited series based on The Corrections, the novel by Jonathan Franzen. At the center of the project is three-time Academy Award winner Meryl Streep, who has been cast as Enid Lambert, a key figure in the story and the emotional driving force behind a family narrative marked by tension and unresolved expectations.
The adaptation will involve Franzen himself, who will serve as both screenwriter and executive producer. Streep will also take on an executive producer role, alongside Mark Roybal and Paul Lee for wiip, and Nicole Clemens. Direction is entrusted to Cord Jefferson, Academy Award winner for Best Adapted Screenplay for American Fiction, while production will be handled by Paramount Television Studios.
The series follows the Lambert family, brought together by Enid’s attempt to organize one last Christmas with her husband Alfred and their now-adult children. What begins as a reunion becomes a moment where conflicts, personal failures, and fragile relationships come to the surface. The tone shifts between drama and irony, offering a layered portrayal of family dynamics and the contradictions of the American Dream.
For Meryl Streep, the project marks another step in her recent television career, following successful appearances in series such as Only Murders in the Building. This time, however, she returns in a leading role with active involvement on the production side as well. The rest of the cast has not yet been announced.
The adaptation of The Corrections also follows a previously unsuccessful attempt. In 2012, HBO developed a pilot directed by Noah Baumbach that was never picked up for series. The new Netflix project now aims to bring to the screen a novel long considered “unadaptable,” entrusting it to a high-profile creative team.
